It works by converting the rotational movement of the steering wheel into linear motion through gears or hydraulic/mechanical systems, causing the wheels to turn.
Symptoms of a defective steering rack include play in the steering wheel, squeaking noises when steering, leaking power steering fluid, difficult steering, or a car that does not drive straight.
If you notice symptoms like leaks, heavy steering, or play, an inspection is necessary. A mechanic can assess whether the steering rack needs repair or replacement. Regular checks prevent further damage.
Regularly check the power steering fluid, ensure it is at the correct level and of good quality. Avoid extreme steering movements and have suspension and steering components inspected on time. Proper maintenance prevents wear and leaks.
